The 5 Why’s framework ๐Ÿ‘€

All is revealed! My consulting secret ๐Ÿ‘€

Well, it is not a patented approach or technique.

It is a known method to find a #sustainable solution to a problem.

First crafted by a Japanese inventor, Sakichi Toyoda (and funny enough, first applied at Toyota), this method is called “the 5 Why’s”.

Follow me:

– #consulting is solving a specific problem, right?

– you can solve a problem sustainably if you dig deep and find its root cause, correct?

Einstein said, “If I had an hour to solve a problem and my life depended on the solution, I would spend the first 55 minutes determining the proper question to askโ€ฆ..”

Ask “Why” 5 times, beginning with “Why did [problem A] happen?

Because of B. Then ask “Why did B happen? and so on until you get to E.

Now listen! This is not enough! Here is the secret!

๐ŸŽฑYou must act upon all 5 answers of this Q&ฮ‘๐ŸŽฑ

I have found that any problem I am called to solve can be broken down to 5 levels (less than 5 is incomplete, more than 5 may be excessive).

A. ask & listen vs know-it-all

B. create trust so that the client speaks up the right answers

๐ŸฆŒ Do these make sense to you?

A. I already knew it

B. It’s brilliant!

C. No big deal. It’s common sense.
